Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist - Peer Recovery Expansion Project

The qualified candidate will possess a valid Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) credential as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS). They must also either possess or be able to obtain Criminal History Clearance from Pennsylvania State Police, Child Abuse Clearances from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances prior to hiring. The candidate must also be clear of any felony conviction by five (5) years. Additionally, they must not be excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal health care program. They must have the ability to transport oneself in an insured and registered vehicle as program needs dictate.

The Peer Recovery Expansion Project (PREP) CRS will be housed in the Meadville Medical Center (MMC) and will work directly with hospital staff and leadership to provide care for substance use emergencies. The PREP CRS will focus not only on direct patient care, but also on education and training to reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorders (SUDs) and behavioral health issues. Thus, strong communication skills; boundary setting; and adherence to policy, confidentiality, and ethical codes of conduct are imperative.

The direct services provided by the PREP CRS will involve meeting with patients in the emergency department who present with substance involved conditions, this may include overdoses. The PREP CRS will have the ability to assess Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and demonstrate knowledge of community resources to assist the patient and/or their family and loved ones to meet these needs. Critical to this is the ability to work cooperatively with medical professionals to facilitate a warm hand-off to the Case Management staff of Crawford County Drug & Alcohol for a determination of an appropriate level of care for SUD treatment.
